Shri A.V. Anand

Born on 16th April 1936 to Smt. Nagamma & Shri Alankar Venkobachar. Started learning Mridangam from Vidwan Shri K.S. MANJUNATH (well known Ghatam Maestro) at the age of four. His father Shri Alankar Venkobachar was a musician and a great connoisseur of Music. So Music was in the family & blood. By the age of 9, Shri A.V. Anand was trained as a talented and vibrant percussionist. Ever since he has been playing in concerts accompanying great masters.


Shri A.V.Anand was exposed to quality music from the time he started his learning. He was highly impressed by the playing of Legendary Vidwan Palghat Shri Mani Iyer & Vidwan Palani Shri Subramanya Pillai. Shri A.V.Anand was especially attracted towards the captivating playing of Shri Palani. He developed his playing on the basis of Shri Palani and brought out his own style by constant practice and hard work.


World renowned Vidwan Mysore Shri T.Chowdaiah was spellbound by Shri Anand’s mastery over the instrument at such a young age. From then on Vidwan Mysore Shri T.Chowdaiah encouraged Shri A.V.Anand by having him to provide Mridangam accompaniment for his Solo concerts. Shri A.V.Anand has accompanied stalwarts like Vidwan Shri Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhgavathar, Vidwan Shri Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Vidwan Shri Mysore T.Chowdaiah, Vidwan Shri Flute T.R.Mahalingam, Vidwan Shri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Vidwan Shri Madurai Mani Iyer, Vidwan Shri Madurai Somu, Vidushi Smt.M.L.Vasanthakumari, Vidushi Smt.K.B.Sundarambal, Vidwan Shri N.Ramani, Vidwan Shri R.R.Keshavamurthy, Vidwan Shri R.K.Srikantan, Vidwan Shri Doraiswamy Iyengar, Vidwan Shri Chitti Babu, Vidwan Shri Anoor S.Ramakrishna and many others.


‘LAYAKALA NIPUNA’, ‘MRIDANGA VADANA CHAKRAVARTHY’, ‘KALABHOOSHANA’, ‘LAYAVAADYA KALAAVATAMSA’, ‘KARNATAKA KALASHREE’, MRIDANGA VAADANA RATNA’, ‘ANANYA PURASKARA’, ‘MRIDANGA KALA SHIROMANI’ are some of the awards that has been bestowed upon him for his service to the art of Mridangam Percussion.


He has been guiding Amrit to the advanced aspects of Mridangam in view of higher level performance and presentation, for more than a decade.
