Born on 13th October 1943. Learnt Mridangam in 1954 under the tutelage of “Mridanga Ratnakara” Vidwan Shri H. PUTTACHAR at the age of 11. His father Shri Mannaji Rao and elder brother Shri Jaimuni Rao, both were Hindustani musicians. Started performing in 1958. Has been accompaniying all senior musicians of the country. Has performed at prestigious sabhas all over India. Has been giving performances in AIR and Doordarshan and also featured in many National Level Festivals, Percussion Ensembles, Lecture Demonstrations, AudioCassettes and CDs. Secured First Rank in the Vidwat Examination conducted by the Karnataka State Education Board, in the year 1966. Secured several prizes in many competitions.
“MRIDANGA VAADANA RATNA”, “BEST MRIDANGA ARTIST”, “LAYA VAADYA CHATURA”, “ARTIST OF THE YEAR”, “LAYA VAADYA KALAAVATAMSA”, “KARNATAKA KALASHRI”, “MRIDANGA VAADANA PRAVEENA”, “LAYA KALA NIPUNA” are some of the awards he has received.
Shri M. Vasudeva Rao initially taught Amrit the basic nuances of carnatic percussive traditions of Mridangam for more than a decade.
